Obama and family arrive in Hawaii for Christmas

KAILUA, Hawaii (AP) ? President Barack Obama and his family have arrived in Honolulu to spend Christmas in Hawaii, where the president was born and raised.

Air Force One touched down in Honolulu minutes after midnight local time on Saturday. The first family departed the plane and traveled quickly to their vacation house in the beach town of Kailua, a scenic, sleepy beach town on the east side of Oahu.

Kailua is roughly 12 miles from downtown Honolulu. Obama's vacation house sits near a Marine base, on the north end of a five-mile stretch of beach popular among windsurfers and paddle surfers.

As the president and his family departed Air Force One, Obama had shed the jacket he was wearing when he left Washington and was in a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up. The first family left Washington on Friday night.

White House officials say the president's vacation itinerary doesn't include any scheduled public events.

No return date has been given by the White House. Obama himself said earlier Friday that, since a deal hasn't been reached to avert the so-called "fiscal cliff," he would be returning to Washington after Christmas.

Detritus of broken hearts on show in romantic Paris

PARIS (Reuters) - Paris may be the city of romance, but for one month this much-loved capital is littered with the broken-hearted bric-a-brac of failed relationships in a new exhibition.

The "Museum of Broken Relationships" is part flea market and part final resting place for the many objects, both bizarre and mundane, that testify to love gone awry.

A snip of a dreadlock, red stilettos purchased in the raunchy Pigalle neighbourhood of the French capital, a green plastic duck and of course an unworn wedding ring -- are all on display in the basement of the former municipal funeral home that has been turned into The 104 art and culture center.

Texts of various lengths and formats, from a few choice words to gushing poems, accompany the anonymous love tokens, along with the name of a city where the romance bloomed. Most striking are two dates - a beginning and an end.

"There is something precious in break-ups because they offer a new perspective on love", said Olinka Vistica, the exhibit's curator. "These objects are not worth anything, it's a flea market, but we try to show them with dignity, and create sort of a temple."

Vistics said the exhibit's Parisian home until January 20 may be symbolic, but not maudlin. The show opened on Wednesday.

Still, "We are not creating a cemetery," Vistica told Reuters, adding that the show felt nevertheless "like a farewell ceremony."

On one pillar, a 19-year marriage is expressed through a book of works by French author Gustave Flaubert that was offered for a 40th birthday.

"A youthful romance which became a lifelong love, transformed, and gave birth to two kids before everything vanished," reads the text.

Further on, a red stiletto is accompanied by the lyrics to a popular French pop song by Les Rita Mitsouko: "Love stories end badly ... in general."

One woman at the show who had donated a memento said the museum offered a "second life" to the symbols of lost love.

"This object that I schlepped around is now part of the collective history," she said.

The touring exhibit, created in 2006 in Croatia, has traveled to more than 20 cities around the world.

At each stop, locals have contributed their own relics to share with the world. In Paris, the exhibit reached a record high with more than 100 mementos donated. The show is a mix of Parisian and international contributions.

"In Paris, just like in other large cities, people live fast, their relationships come and go, and adultery is widespread," Vistica said.

French lovers tend to be excessively introspective, according to Drazen Grubisic, co-creator of the exhibit.

"We've noticed a difference in how the stories are written," he said. "It's like everybody went to the psychiatrist."

While a break-up inspires "truly universal" feelings, the individual stories tell much more about a country's culture, said Vistica.

In the Philippines, for example, many texts talk about the yearning to emigrate while in the Balkans, mentions of war are ubiquitous, she said. One contributed relic was a prosthetic leg from a man wounded in war who had fallen in love with his social worker at a Zagreb hospital.

This museum was itself born of a break-up, that of Vistica, a film producer, and Grubisic, an artist, and started as a temporary exhibition in the garden of a Zagreb gallery begun with contributions from friends.

Six years later, they say working on the museum has helped them respect each other more as they continue to collaborate.

"People, somehow, by donating, put an end to this part of their lives, and can start anew," Grubisic said.

Less wait for travel could reduce drinking and driving in people with 'urgency' personality trait

ScienceDaily (Nov. 30, 2012) ? Saving bar patrons' time on their commute home could save lives. A pair of studies by University of Missouri psychologists found that people who reported drinking and driving also exhibited "urgency," or a lack of emotional self-control, especially while drinking. This suggests that some people when intoxicated may be more likely to choose the convenience of driving themselves home instead of waiting for a taxi, said Denis McCarthy, associate professor of psychology at MU.

"Our study correlated urgency, a specific type of impulsivity, to drinking and driving," McCarthy said. "Individuals with a high degree of urgency tend to act impulsively when they are in both positive and negative emotional states. By looking at personality traits that correlate with drinking and driving, we can help people understand how their personalities might incline them to choose the risk of driving after drinking. Once a person knows this, they can decide to take extra care to moderate their drinking or be prepared to call a cab, hop on a bus or ask a designated driver for help."

In one study, McCarthy and his colleagues evaluated 29 individuals based on whether they had recently driven after consuming three or more drinks in the previous two hours. The study participants were repeatedly presented with the option of receiving a small amount of money (five cents) as a reward after waiting five seconds or a larger amount (15 cents) as a reward after 15 seconds. Choosing the shorter wait and smaller reward was considered an expression of impulsive behavior.

Participants completed the test twice -- once while sober and once after drinking alcohol. Individuals who reported drinking and driving were not different from other participants in their impulsivity when sober. After consuming alcohol, those who reported drinking and driving exhibited a significantly higher degree of impulsivity.

In the second study, McCarthy and his colleagues surveyed more than 800 individuals about their drinking and driving beliefs and behaviors. The survey also assessed the degree to which they expressed impulsive characteristics such as urgency, lack of planning or perseverance, and sensation seeking. Urgency was found to be the characteristic most associated with drinking and driving.

"Our studies of urgency help explain why people end up with DWIs even though, while sober, they abhor the notion of drinking and driving," said McCarthy. "Under the influence of alcohol, some people may feel an exited emotional state and hence greater urges to act on an impulse that they would normally not condone."

McCarthy noted that alternatives to drinking and driving can take more time than some intoxicated individuals are willing to wait. Impulsive personalities, enhanced by alcohol, tend to take the short term reward of convenience and discount the risk of death or legal action. He suggests reducing wait times for taxis, public transit or other transport options could give the impatient drinker a quick and safe option to get home. City planners and policy makers could help by providing bus routes and taxi stands near drinking establishments.

The study, "Direct and Indirect Effects of Impulsivity Traits on Drinking and Driving in Young Adults," was published in the Journal of Studies on Alcohol and Drugs. The study, "Acute alcohol effects on impulsivity: associations with drinking and driving behavior," was published in the journal Addiction.

At the University of Missouri, officials strive to end drunk driving with several programs. "Stripes" is a free taxi service coordinated by MU that provides approximately 10,000 rides per year. MU officials also have worked with the city of Columbia to increase the availability of transportation by providing taxi stands near drinking establishments frequented by students. Another program, "Cheers," provides free soda to designated drivers at most Columbia bars.

WikiLeaks: Varied views of Manning self-harm risk

FORT MEADE, Md. (AP) ? Several former workers at a Marine Corps brig in Quantico, Va., say an Army private charged with providing classified information to the secret-spilling WikiLeaks website was so withdrawn that they considered him at risk of hurting himself.

Testimony by ex-staff members continued Sunday at a pretrial hearing for Pfc. Bradley Manning.

The hearing is to determine whether the highly restrictive conditions he experienced for nine months were justified. The defense claims the restrictions were so punishing that the case should be dismissed.

Two psychiatrists have testified that the brig commander kept Manning tightly confined despite their recommendations to ease them.

The 24-year-old is charged with 22 offenses, including aiding the enemy. He could get life in prison.

The hearing, in its sixth day, will recess Sunday and resume Wednesday.

How I Create: Q&A With Artist & Author Carla Sonheim - Psych Central

When I first saw Carla Sonheim?s artwork, I instantly fell in love with her playful and unique creatures (like the one above). Sonheim?s paintings and illustrations are what creativity is all about: giving birth to novel, stirring ideas that surpass the predictable.

Sonheim uses her boundless, innovative approach in her classes and books, such as her latest The Art of Silliness: A Creativity Book for Everyone. I love that she makes art accessible, surprising and fun for everyone.

I?m incredibly honored to share my interview with Sonheim for our monthly series. Below, she offers her wise and fascinating thoughts on the creative process. She shares how she connects to her own creativity and how we, too, can ignite our imagination.

1. Do you incorporate creativity-boosting activities into your daily routine? If so, what activities do you do?

Yes. I try to make a mark every day. I have a stack of sturdy card stock near my computer, a stack of watercolor paper at my painting table, and a sketchbook in my purse. Sometimes it?s just a line or a scribble. Some days, the mark turns into little creatures or more involved drawings or paintings.

Also, each day I write (or try to write) ?morning pages? a la Julia Cameron (The Artist?s Way). Typing them at www.750words.com works well for me.

2. What are your inspirations for your work?

I?m inspired both by other artists? work and the world around me.

Other Artists: Everyone! But especially Outsider Art, children?s art, contemporary illustration, illustration from the 1950s and 1960s, and the work of early 20th century artists such as Picasso, Modigliani, Klee, Matisse, Calder, and others.

The World Around Me: Mostly ?little? things. When on walks I look at the ground a lot. I ?see? animals in leaves and sidewalk cracks. I love living in Seattle where the spring flowers are spectacular? and then especially when they ?die? and dry up a few weeks later. On the bus or train I stare at the faces of other passengers.

(I have to catch myself, that I don?t REALLY stare, but I do spend probably a moment too long admiring the curve of someone?s nose, for example.)

3. There are many culprits that can crush creativity, such as distractions, self-doubt and fear of failure. What tends to stand in the way of your creativity?

The ART of SillinessAll of the above!

And each day is different; some days I feel pretty confident, but I?m unable to focus. Others, I just feel like everything I do is bad or embarrassing, and inertia creeps in.

I?ve come to see all these things as ?resistance,? as Steven Pressfield writes in The War of Art. It truly is one of the biggest paradoxes; being creative brings such joy to our lives, why do we resist it so much?

Answer: The same reason we resist exercising, eating well, and doing anything else ?good? for us: We?re human. (I know, NOT a satisfactory answer!)

4. How do you overcome these obstacles?

I?ll try to answer with a story.

When I had my first son, I was determined to meet all his needs quickly so he would never need to cry. (That lasted a week. After that I just tried my best to meet his needs.)

But no sooner would I figure out his routine and what worked the best, when something would change; he?d get sick, we?d travel, or he would simply grow out of whatever stage I had been enjoying for the few days I had finally ?figured it out.?

It?s the same with overcoming the ?resistance? or obstacles to creativity; just when I figure out a combination of tricks and routines that seem to work, something changes and it doesn?t work anymore!

But here are activities that have worked in the past: starting with ?nonsense? exercises; walking or exercising; sitting myself down in the chair and just doing it, with a timer if I need to; trolling the Internet; library or bookstore visits; galleries; writing down 20 ideas a day, even if they?re silly; and facing the down days with as much gentleness as possible.

I have many, many days that I?m not ?productive.? But it all works together; those down times are very important!

5. What are some of your favorite resources on creativity?

I?ve read a lot of books and get something from each of them! I?ve already mentioned The Artist?s Way by Julia Cameron and The War of Art by Steven Pressfield. I also love Art and Fear by David Bayles/Ted Orland and The Creative Habit by Twyla Tharp.

6. What is your favorite way to get your creative juices flowing?

I have a game I play with myself when I need inspiration. I have a flickr.com account, a photo-sharing site. Artists and illustrators all over the world use it to share their work. I have dozens of ?favorites? ? drawings and paintings I like. I head over to my favorites list and click on an image that inspires me that day.

Then, I?ll go to THAT artist?s favorites list, and click on one of THEIR favorites that inspires me. I?ll then root around this new artist?s site for a while, and when I?m ready, will go to THAT artist?s favorites. I will repeat until I?ve found about 6-7 new artists.

This almost never fails; I ALWAYS want to pick up my pencil afterwards!

7. What?s your advice for readers on cultivating creativity?

Creativity has both tangible and intangible components. I?ve found that if I indulge in the tangibles (the making of something physical that wasn?t there before, such as drawing, painting, writing), the intangibles (freer-flowing ideas, problem-solving skills) come more easily as well.

Julia Cameron writes, ?The creative part of us is always childlike.? The easiest way for me to enter into an open, ?kid? mindset is to do some silly drawing or writing exercises: I?ll draw with my left (non-dominant) hand, do a series of one-line drawings, scribble all over the page, write a list of words as fast as I can, write some silly haiku, etc. ? I give myself ?assignments? to get the pencil moving.

Also, I?ve found that creativity, like trying to remember nighttime dreams, can be elusive; the more pressure you put on yourself, the more difficult the process.

You need to have an open mind for creativity to flow, and this is difficult or impossible if you are beating yourself up for not being more creative! Practicing gentleness with yourself is a good catalyst to creativity.

8. Anything else you?d like readers to know about creativity?

What works for me might not work for you ? heck, what works for me today might not work for me tomorrow! We need to find our own way in all areas of life, including our creative endeavors. Diet, exercise, relationships, housecleaning habits, spiritual things, cultivating creativity? we are hopefully constantly trying to improve these areas of our lives, and need to find our own particular way of doing it.

It?s never-ending and always changing, but that?s what makes it fun, too!

?

The Best Online Video Marketing Advice You Can Find | Free ...

Have you considered using video marketing to promote your business but don?t know how to begin? Others understand the basic concepts of video marketing, but do not know how to incorporate it into their marketing plans. The article below can assist you. The information that follows should give you a solid base to springboard off of as you begin to delve into video marketing.

People like to hear good stories about others. What stories can you tell about your company or products? Share video of charitable events you?ve taken part in and discuss them from inception to action to results. In addition, you can include customer testimonials of how your products have helped them in some way.

When video marketing, pay attention to user comments. To show your clients that you truly respect their opinion, you need to respond when it is appropriate. You will show an interest in others and establish yourself as a committed business owner. This interaction can be advantageous to your business.

Translators are key to foreign language videos. If you market to others that don?t speak your language, never use translators that you can find free online. You will be more respected by your customers if they can understand you.

Include an opt-in form for your mailing list on every page where your videos are posted. This is a great way to keep them interested in what you?re selling.

Online promotion is simple through video marketing. Potential customers will gain confidence in your products if you provide short demonstrations and how-tos. Seeing a product work live can increase your sales.

If you plan to make marketing videos, they need to be brief and concise. No one wants to wait for you to spill the beans. Should the video seem too long, break it into smaller segments that can be watched at the viewer?s convenience.

Use a professional interpreter if you make foreign language videos. Do not rely on online translators if your audience is from a different culture and speaks another language. A well-translated video earns foreign customers? respect.

All your videos should have some sort of call-to-action. Let viewers know a simple way to see your products. Give instructions that are easy to follow, so that people are able to do so whenever the next opportunity arises. Getting straight to the point is effective, so conclude each video with a direct call to action.

If the purpose of your video is getting someone to purchase a product or service you offer, then you need a working link they can use to buy it. The best thing to do is to place the link within the video player. When you do this, the link will follow the video regardless of where it is embedded or shared.

How-to videos are ranked as one of the highest searched topics on the web. Creating tutorials on a topic will help you reach targeted visitors in your niche. When they realize you are an expert, they will surely be interested in additional offerings.

Think of some questions that may be asked concerning your products. Those are the things your customers are wondering as well. Put them in a video for a fun way to learn. If your video is entertaining, it?s more likely to be shared. This will increase your customer base, leading to more profits.

Watch the videos produced by your competitors. Learn from their mistakes and do your best to create some very different videos. Watch the videos and jot down ideas as you watch. Be sure to watch lots of different videos so that you can come up with different ideas.

If you are utilizing video marketing, greet customers in a nice way. Introduce yourself and your business at first. You need to also make sure you restate your business information in a positive tone at the end of your video.

In order to get more videos on your site, think about having a contest. Whether serious or light-hearted, your customers will enjoy participating. These videos can also be excellent ways to learn more about your viewers, and vice versa.

Video marketing can help you communicate to the very people that you want to turn into customers. If someone sends a question to you via email, create a video to answer it. The video format gives them a greater understanding of the message you want to get across.

Be honest with your viewers, and be specific about the content of your videos. You should discuss this at the beginning of your video and even in the description so that your customers will know what your video is about. When the topic grabs their attention, they will stay for the whole video and possibly follow the URL link.

For people that want to sell more or reach more potential customers, video marketing could be the answer. It is important that you first understand and learn how to come up with a good marketing plan. Take this information to heart as you start your video marketing campaign.

Congo rebels try to take Goma airport and weapons

GOMA, Congo (AP) ? The spokesman for the United Nations peacekeeping mission in Congo says the rebels now controlling the city of Goma attempted to take the airport, which is under U.N. control, and to seize arms stored there.

Spokesman Madnodje Mounoubai said the M23 rebels were trying to steal weapons belonging to the Congolese army. He said the U.N. will "not allow or tolerate" the rebels to take the airport or the equipment there.

Rebel leader Gen. Sultani Makenga accused the U.N. of blocking the rebels' withdrawal from Goma. He warned that this "changes everything," meaning the rebels may no longer leave the city as promised.

The M23 was given an ultimatum to leave by Friday, and already they said they planned to extend by at least 48 hours for "logistical reasons."

The perfect income for happiness? It's $161,000

By Robert Frank, CNBC

More than one study has tried to determine the financial price of happiness. Some look at wealth. Others look at income.

One well-publicized study last year put the optimal income for happiness at around $75,000. Rising income, it turns out, produces greater happiness until you get to around $75,000. After that, there are diminishing returns, with more income leading to little or no gain in real happiness.?

This is a fraught question, of course. ?Happiness? itself is not easily defined, and money?doesn't always guarantee it. And the financial requirements for happiness usually depend on geography, peer groups and other external factors.?

The latest to weigh in on the issue is Skandia International?s Wealth Sentiment Monitor. It found that the global average ?happiness income? is around $161,000 for 13 countries surveyed. The United States wasn?t specifically measured. (Read more: Why Millionaires Prefer Dogs)?

But there was a wide range of answers depending on the country. Dubai residents need the most to feel wealthy. They said the needed $276,150 to be happy. Singapore came in second place, with $227,553, followed by Hong Kong, with $197,702.?

The region with the most modest needs for happiness is Europe. Germans only need $85,781 to be happy, placing them lowest on the list. The French need $114,000, while the British need $133,000.?

The survey doesn?t ask about total wealth needed to feel happy. But it does ask about the amount of wealth needed to feel ?wealthy.? Globally, the average amount needed to feel wealthy was $1.8 million.?

Singaporeans took the lead on the ?wealth? needs, with $2.91 million needed to feel wealthy. Dubai ranked second with $2.5 million, followed by Hong Kong with $2.46 million. (Read more: Where to Live If You Want to Be a Millionaire)?

Surveys show that among Americans, most say they need $1 million or more to feel wealthy.

?All of this shows that wealth and financial happiness is not an absolute number, but is relative to your peers and surroundings. Living in Dubai, with all those oil barons and oligarchs, the needs are higher. In Germany, where wealth is more evenly distributed, the needs are not as high.

?How much wealth or income would you need to feel happy?

Promotional Videos and Net Etiquette | Sphinx Web Design Experts

If you are a business owner who traffics in e-commerce, no doubt you?ve overheard a colleague ? perhaps an IT person, or a web guru ? tell you, ?Don?t do that on the web page. Nobody likes advertising videos. It?s poor form.?

It doesn?t matter that the worker is looking at the World Wide Web from a potential customer?s viewpoint rather than a business establishment?s perspective. Much too frequently, the harried business owner, insecure about his own grasp of Internet commerce, will succumb to these types of outcries. He is terrified of turning off and repelling potential customers. But, how is that different from a network executive determining to pull all of their advertising campaigns because ?folks hate marketing??

In one critical regard, Internet commerce is no different from face-to-face purchases that have definitely run human economies for millennia. It?s this: nothing sells like a real man or woman talking to another real person. The notion that a business may be managed based on the wishes and inclinations of the customer, surfing the Web at 3 a.m., is a myth. But wait, you say. What about Amazon? iTunes?

Fair enough, but these websites are exceptions, not the rule. Besides, Amazon didn?t turn a profit until 10 years after it kicked off.

And Apple, frankly, could afford to take the numerous risks it has made over its substantially lengthier existence.

Unsuccessful online companies think that it is much easier to generate profits on the Web rather than in a brick and mortar store. The truth is, it?s not much different. Business has not changed that much. It?s the means of communication at our fingertips that has streamlined, or alternatively amended the methods we employ to communicate with one another. Of these, video promotion is the most powerful, but may be overused. Business is a push-pull partnership. It relies on interaction, and it relies on getting a person to give something up (cash, momentary convenience, time), to obtain what you?re selling. Picture if companies looked at everything from the consumer?s point of view? Precisely where would we be then?

Let?s look at some examples:

? YouTube pulls all ads from its videos, because site viewers do not like to see them. YouTube soon cannot afford to give site visitors the experience they have come to enjoy because revenue dwindles.

? A car lot gets rid of its whole entire floor sales team, because no one likes to be bothered by pushy salesmen. Fewer vehicles are sold, which affects the car dealership?s bottom line. They may have to shut their doors permanently.

? Safeway declares every Sunday an ?everything?s free day.?

Do we need to go on with this?

It turns out online marketing is no different. No right-minded bricks-and-mortar small business owner would let the consumers determine the company?s marketing plans.

Nor should a small business owner whose presence is mostly online, allow customers on the Internet to establish the business? level of success. The point? Leave the marketing to the online marketers (including video marketers). They are the ones that have your profits as their key interest. Does that mean undertaking things that some individuals find annoying or undesirable is always advantageous for you, the business owner? Certainly not. But never forget that your needs are the opposite of the consumer?s needs. They might want your services or product, but they would rather not sacrifice their money. You want the consumer?s money, but it would be cheaper and easier for you not to have to sacrifice your services or product.

Your task is to convince the customer he or she is receiving the better end of the deal, while you know that you are ? and you have the annual report to confirm it.

Former Radio DJ Battles Prostate Cancer ? CBS Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ? Most men diagnosed with prostate cancer will survive, but their lives will never be the same.

Michael ?Doughnuts? Wegner did have it good ? enjoying his scenic patch of land in Wisconsin that overlooks the St. Croix River Valley, a loving family, and his great job. In the 80s, Wegner dominated morning radio on the Knapp and Doughnuts show ? rubbing elbows with celebrities like Hulk Hogan and Kenny Rogers.

?All I had to do was get a laugh out of somebody and I was happy,? Wegner said.

His good life was dealt a reality check about a year ago when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer.

?I don?t like to admit it, but when I drove home that day (makes crying motion with his hands) it was like I felt sorry for myself,? he said. ?I could?ve had the cancer for five years or more they think so we had to do drastic action.?

Michael agreed to have his prostate and bladder removed, followed by chemotherapy.

Dr. Parker Eberwein is the head of urology at HealthPartners. While prostate cancer is very common in aging men, he says many will survive.

?Twenty percent of men are going to be diagnosed with prostate cancer sometime during their life,? Eberwein said.

So why can prostate cancer be fatal and sometimes not?

?Sometimes it can be extremely aggressive. Most of the time fortunately it?s not,? he said. ?We don?t have a perfect test to tell us who will die from the disease and who won?t if we don?t treat them.?

Dr. Eberwein says surgery and chemo can be a hard pill to swallow for patients. Common side effects with surgery are bladder control issues and erectile dysfunction.

Michael says his cancer was so advanced that his focus was on something else.

?You worry more about living,? he said.

His doctors tell Michael he?s now cancer free. After complications with the surgeries he?s on a slow road to recovery, hoping to get back to the good life.

?I just want to feel better, so I can walk to the barn,? he said.

Like so many men, Michael admits he waited too long to see a doctor, and doesn?t want others to make the same mistake.

Michael noticed blood in his urine, and by that time the cancer was fairly advanced.

Doctors recommend getting screened as part of an annual physical at age 40.

PFT: Seahawks CB Sherman denies taking PED

St Louis Rams v Arizona CardinalsGetty Images

It sounds like rookie quarterback Ryan Lindley will get another shot? to start for the Cardinals, after his four-interception debut.

But as with all things Cardinals quarterbacks this year, that comes with an asterisk.

Cards coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday that Lindley would start again if Kevin Kolb wasn?t healthy, making it reasonable to wonder if John Skelton will ever see the light of day again.

Two of Lindley?s picks were returned for touchdowns in the Cards loss to the Rams, their seventh straight after a 4-0 start.

?Yes. We stay with Ryan,? Whisenhunt said of the non-Kolb condition, via Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic. Listen, let?s start this thing off by saying you can?t have those interceptions. But in the first half, I thought he did a really nice job. He moved in the pocket, was decisive, managed it, made some good throws. We had three scoring drives in the first half, 17 points and over 200 yards of offense, possession time, was good on third down. I felt that we did a lot of good things, even with the pick-six.

?And the first pick-six, that was a mistake in his read. That can happen. The one in the second half, you have to learn from those. He made a bad decision. That?s what you have to see, can he learn from that? There was nobody more upset about than him, especially after the game. He was torn up because he knows he can?t do that.?

In Arizona he can, because they?re running out of options.

Asked if Kolb might be ready to return from a rib injury this week, Whisenhunt said he wasn?t sure yet.

?I don?t know where Kevin is health-wise,? Whisenhunt said. ?He?s making progress but as far as being ready for a game, that?s something we can?t determine until we see where he is Wednesday.?

Short of Kurt Warner coming back, it?s hard to imagine how any shuffling of the current deck chairs is going to matter that much.

Japan opposition LDP remains election favorite: poll

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's opposition Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) is holding its lead ahead of December 16 election, opinion polls showed on Monday, with the hawkish Japan Restoration Party (JRP) led by a nationalist former Tokyo governor coming second.

The Yomiuri daily poll showed that 25 percent of voters would choose the LDP, which is calling for aggressive monetary steps to end deflation, well ahead of the ruling Democratic Party of Japan's (DPJ) 10 percent support.

The election for parliament's powerful lower house is unlikely to fix a policy stalemate that has plagued Japan as it struggles with an ageing population, a declining manufacturing sector and the emerging power of China.

Fourteen percent of voters planned to vote for the new Japan Restoration Party, led by 80-year-old Shintaro Ishihara and popular Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto.

Ishihara, the outspoken former Tokyo governor who sparked a territorial row with China with plans to buy a group of disputed islands, was seen as a more suitable government leader than Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda, according to Yomiuri's survey.

But LDP opposition leader Shinzo Abe kept his individual lead with 29 percent of voter support.

The election is expected to usher in a period of confusing coalition politics because of the emergence of new parties and because whoever wins will still lack a majority in parliament's upper house, which can block bills.

With many Japanese disillusioned with politics, 37 percent of respondents to the Yomiuri poll said they were undecided. Surveys by other media, the Asahi newspaper and Kyodo news agency, showed similar results.

The DPJ swept to power in 2009 ending more than a half a century of nearly non-stop LDP rule. But its support slumped over what voters saw as broken promises, a confused response to last year's tsunami and nuclear crisis, and Noda's unpopular policies such as a tax hike and the restart of nuclear reactors.

Why 2D Printing Is Like 3D Printing: A Counter Rant

JohnHauerEditor's note: John Hauer is a sales, marketing and technology innovator with a 20+ career of working in print and related industries. He manages a blog which evangelizes 3D printing for traditional 2D printers, and can be found at 3D4printers.com. I recently read an article on TechCrunch by Jon Evans entitled 3D Printers Are Not Like 2D Printers. While I would agree with the title (obviously the two devices don?t serve the same purpose), I don?t agree with the argument Jon makes for why 3D printing is not like 2D printing.

The first hit computer game, Pong, is 40 years old | The Sun |Fun ...

COMPUTER gaming really has grown up - as classic arcade title Pong turns 40 this week.

The first commercially successful video game in history, it arrived in US arcades on November 29 1972, and immediately became a huge hit.

The tennis simulator saw players using paddles to knock a ball across the screen, with the action speeding up as the game progressed.

Originally created for games company Atari by designer Allan Alcorn as part of a training exercise, it proved so enjoyable that a prototype was installed in a California bar.

Seventies Liverpool footballer Steve Heighway plays Pong

Mainstream success ... Seventies Liverpool footballer Steve Heighway plays Pong

And when Atari co-founder Nolan Bushnell returned to the bar to find the coin compartment overflowing, he decided to put the game into full production.

It soon enjoyed huge success, with over 19,000 cabinets sold, and a home version released in 1975.

The title has gone on to be updated and remade for almost every console, including the PlayStation, Nintendo DS, and PSP.

It paved the way for the Seventies heyday of the gaming arcades, with 1978's Space Invaders and 1979's Asteroids also huge hits.

MAKERS Atari mark the fortieth birthday of the first hit video game with an enormous version of the title

And to mark its 40th birthday, Atari last week created an enormous version of the game at the Lights Festival in Kansas City, on the side of a 22-storey building.

Guy Cocker, editor of GameSpot UK, said: "While Pong technically wasn't the first video game ever made, it is certainly the one that started the games industry as we know it today."

He added: "Its importance can't be understated - it was the game that launched Atari, was the first game to gain mainstream success both in arcades and the home, and was copied all around the world by companies including Nintendo.

"It's gone on to appear on nearly every games console ever since, and is just as addictive today as it was back in 1972."
