Benefits of Taking Landmark Education

Life is all about learning new things. The most important things in life are to learn skills that might assist you in handling everyday life. It is vital that you do not just go through life without direction, purpose or a sense of belonging. Landmark education is a program that offers skills that will motivate you in a quest to find solutions to the situations that present themselves.

There are many types of forums like landmark forum that are offering these types of programs to people who need them. You need to ensure that the forum or program that you attend gives you value for your money. It is important to note that landmark education is available for people of all ages and all walks of life. The most important thing is a willingness to learn. There are several benefits of attending or pursuing landmark education. It is these benefits that have led to the popularity of this program.

When someone mentions education, the illusion that most people have is a boring class and lots of notes that do not make sense. Rarely will people think of education being synonymous with fun. This is the case with the landmark forum. They have found innovative ways to teach that will allow you to participate and discover the answers that you are looking for. The casual design of landmark education is one of the reasons why it is effective and appeals to most people.

One of the areas that are sensitive in our lives is how we handle the relationships around us. This is one of the areas that most people need help in when they attend the landmark forum. Those that have successfully gone through the landmark education learn valuable skills on how to build healthy relationships. The landmark forum is also a great place for people like teenagers and their parents to find a way to manage conflicts at this age. One of the ways of ensuring that you live a happy life is by having relationships that enrich you and build you as a person. These are some of the lessons that you learn from a landmark forum.

If you are a professional in any field one of the things that we all want to do is improve our productivity. This is important because improvement comes with promotions and a general sense of achievement. Landmark education assists people in understanding where to improve and how to improve in order to see the results that we want especially when it comes to personal productivity. It is essential to be inspired about everything that you do. This is not the case sometimes because hurdles might present themselves that might make us lose inspiration.

Landmark forum sessions strive to motivate individuals that have lost inspiration for one reason or the other. By getting a new perspective most people are able to find solutions to things that they previously saw as hurdles. Notably, not everyone will find the solutions that they need here but the lessons to be learnt are plenty.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A Chinese national has been indicted by a federal grand jury in Rhode Island on charges that he illegally smuggled more than $1 million worth of counterfeit Marlboro cigarettes into the United States.

Rhode Island U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha (Nuh-ROH'-nuh) announced the indictment against 32-year-old Lin Xiao (joo) Wei (way) on Friday.

Federal prosecutors say Wei was arrested in Miami on June 4 after federal agents arranged to purchase a 20-foot cargo container containing 17 pallets of counterfeit Marlboro cigarettes.

Authorities say the shipping documentation claimed the container contained leather products. Federal agents seized the container when it arrived in Miami from China on April 27.

Prosecutors also allege Wei discussed shipping counterfeit Viagra. He's scheduled to be arraigned on Monday.

A message was left Friday for Wei's lawyer.

Cover Charge: New Spray-On Battery Could Convert Any Object into an Electricity Storage Device

News | Technology

The lithium ion battery is applied in layers, each of which is an aerosol paint, leading to possible solar-energy applications

Perhaps someday you'll need to go to the store because you ran out of cathode paint. A team of researchers has just announced a new paint-on battery design. The technique could change the way batteries are produced and eliminate restrictions on the surfaces used for energy storage.

The paint-on battery, like all lithium ion batteries, consists of five layers: a positive current collector, a cathode that attracts positively charged ions, an ion-conducting separator, an anode to attract negative ions, and a negative current collector. For each layer, the challenge was to find a way to mix the electrically conductive material with various polymers to create a paint that could be sprayed onto surfaces.

Neelam Singh, a member of the team of materials scientists and chemists from Rice University in Houston and Catholic University of Louvain in Belgium and lead author of the paper, says, "It was really exciting to find out. Can we really paint a battery on various surfaces and convert any object into a storage device?"

Singh says her team's work is filling a need in the socially critical field of energy storage for new battery designs. "We find that the focus of research is now shifting towards integration of batteries," she says. That is, people are trying to design batteries that can be built into a variety of different objects. Several teams are working to make thin and flexible batteries as well as batteries that can be incorporated into textiles. Solar energy is one of the applications that researchers are particularly interested in. Solar panels can require large surface areas, and the Rice team's design is an efficient way to collect and store energy in this realm.

To test their design, they applied the battery paints onto ceramic bathroom tiles, glass, a flexible transparency film, stainless steel and the side of a beer stein. In each case, the battery worked. In one experiment, they hooked a solar cell to one of the batteries and powered an LED display.

Singh said the biggest challenge was to make a battery that was both stable and powerful: "It was not very easy to get all the layers on top of each other without interfering with their capacity or compromising the performance of the battery." There were safety concerns as well. Many lithium ion batteries use aluminum as a positive current collector, but aluminum microparticles can be lung irritants, so using them in aerosol paint would be hazardous. Instead, the researchers relied on carbon nanotubes.

Lithium cobalt oxide was used as the cathode, commercially available gel electrolytes as the separator, lithium titanium oxide as the anode, and copper as the negative current collector. The approach is detailed in the June 28 issue of Scientific Reports. (Scientific American is part of Nature Publishing Group.)

Singh thinks that the Rice team's battery is a game-changer because it is energy efficient for its volume and can be applied to objects of many different compositions and shapes.

Vilas Pol, a materials scientist at Argonne National Laboratory who was not affiliated with the study, agrees that the new design is exciting, describing it as "an exceptional and notable concept in the arena of battery design and integration."

But for now paint-on batteries are not quite ready to hit the shelves at your local hardware store. For one, the electrolyte separator layer is not yet oxygen stable. It would explode if it came into contact with air, so special conditions are necessary when creating the battery.

Singh says the team currently is working to make all the materials less reactive to air and moisture and more environmentally friendly. She adds that other groups are working on developing paint-on solar cells. Then, she envisions "paintable solar cells on top of paintable solar batteries." Houses could become solar-energy capture-and-storage devices.

Teachers and Administrators, Don't Be Scared of Technology: It Won't Replace the Classroom

Last year, our principal posed this question to our faculty: Can we be rendered obsolete by online learning?

The Khan Academy was receiving widespread attention for propagating the idea of an online learning experience for younger students. There was a general fear among school administrators and teachers in the K-12 education community that this could become an exclusively online learning system; that a computer could replace a teacher, and an online learning environment could replace a classroom.

Could an online learning system replace a classroom? Yes, it could. Will it? Most definitely not.

The skills that are valued in education today, as opposed to ten years ago, require students to be able to do something with raw information. Students, in order to compete in this highly dynamic world, should be able to collaborate with others in order to create, synthesize, interpret, and evaluate information. These skills are not taught by rote learning alone, but rather are learned through discovery, inquiry, and exploration. Many of these skills cannot be successfully taught through an application or website, but must be experienced in class and facilitated by a teacher.

The Internet has changed society s definition of a knowledgeable person. As recently as t he beginning of the 21st century, educated people were those who knew a great deal of information about one or many subjects. Now, many of us carry smartphones in our pockets. The actual worth of being full of information has, as a result of this accessibility, gone down a great deal. In this Age of Information, access to facts and data is no longer available only to the educated elite, but is available to anyone with an Internet connection. So, as a society, what is an educated person ? What value does that person have? What information really matters, and what has been reduced to the level of trivia?

This is where the classroom comes in. A classroom is not a virtual dictionary or lecture hall where students can receive isolated pieces of information, but rather a place where students can learn how to distill and discern the value of the information they find on the Internet, as well as analyze bias, evaluate content, and construct their own knowledge.

Students need to be able to work with other students to come to these new understandings. In the classroom, the collaborative process is preparing our students to contribute to our economy that is now based more on service and face-to-face interactions than the manufacture of goods (as was the case fifty years ago.) This is the case regardless of the socioeconomic level of the school and its ability to access technology. Because of this shift, in today s world we have to be literate in the collaborative process.

While online learning has become prevalent in college environments, for K-12 education, it is simply not sufficient. As John Dewey (2002) states, When the school introduces and trains each child of society into membership within such a little community?we shall have the deepest and best guaranty of a larger society which is worthy, lovely, and harmonious. (p.124) Online learning has created more opportunities for colleges to convey information to students, but the education of younger students requires much more than the conveyance of information. Instead this burden of education includes the preparation of the student for interaction in our larger society.

Just like many other online learning tools, this exclusively online classroom idea can have its place. When Wikipedia first became commonly used, there was concern that it would be an academically unreliable source, and many educators banned its use by students. There is value to Wikipedia: it is a helpful tool in research as a jumping-off point to obtain further information. Similarly, we would be imprudent in completely discounting the value of learning sites like Khan Academy. When students need to reinforce certain skills, these online learning tools can be very helpful. Proponents of Khan Academy laud it for its ability to ensure that each student is held accountable for their own learning, and that certain skill reinforcement is not overlooked in the efforts of keeping up with the pace of the class. If education was simply about skill reinforcement, then this model might actually be a substitute for the traditional classroom; we as teachers know that skills are simply one facet of a well-rounded education.

While technology cannot replace a classroom, teachers would be remiss if they did not take advantage of the multitude of ways in which technological advances can help them further improve their craft. Now, teachers do not have to spend as much time teaching their students facts to memorize, and can devote more precious class time to engaging with the material on a level that requires students to think critically. Technology is a vehicle that makes this possible.

Effective teachers have been guiding students toward reaching deep and meaningful understandings of content for generations; teachers and their contributions are an invaluable part of the education system. It would be just as misguided to assume that teachers can be replaced by technology as it would be to assume that in today s world, teaching can exist without technology. These ideas are not, and should not be, mutually exclusive. In the classroom, there must be a marriage of interaction, collaboration, and technology.

For example, our students used Skype to speak with a state assemblyman; though this face-to-face interaction occurred through a computer screen, students were able to have an educational experience that would not have been possible otherwise. The alternative, letter-writing, would not have as much of an impact on the students. While all interactions should not be conducted by means of technology, its purposeful supplemental use can revolutionize learning experiences without sacrificing that which we hold dear about education.

Teachers skills must improve along with technological advances. While every year, new technologies are touted as indispensable classroom tools, only some will be worthwhile for actual use in the classroom. We teach our students critical thinking and evaluative skills; we need to apply those discerning skills to the multitude of technological tools we have the option of implementing in our classrooms.

Just because an educational tool isn t perfect does not mean it should be disregarded. Just because an online classroom does not replace the role of a teacher doesn t mean that this learning tool has no educational merit. Though there are thousands of technological tools that help enhance instruction, it doesn t mean that teachers will be rendered obsolete.

Google?s First Foray Into Hardware Is All About The Ecosystem

_MGT4115It's Day One of Google I/O, and the company set out to prove that it's not just about software and algorithms and whatnot, introducing a neat set of hardware devices that are available -- or will be soon -- to take advantage of its Android mobile operating system. But while Google is historically a software provider, it was its hardware that stole the show. Take a close look at the Nexus Q, its first piece of hardware, and you realize that the device pretty useless for doing anything as a standalone device. It is entirely dependent on the user to control it with an Android phone or tablet, and to be connected to Google Play to stream content from the cloud. The Nexus Q, in short, is positioned right in the center of a broader Google ecosystem, bridging the divide between Google's software and cloud services and the hardware that depends on its Android OS.

(AP) ? The commanding officer of the USS Bataan walked into the wardroom of his amphibious-assault ship where about 200 mostly young sailors were crammed into chairs, along walls and behind the salad bar and wasted no time getting to the point: Sailors don't let other sailors commit sexual assault.

"It's a crime and everyone needs to understand that it's a crime," Capt. Erik Ross said after a third of those in the room raised their hand to say they knew a victim of sexual assault. "You and I need to look ourselves in the mirror. We need to understand that you're on duty 24/7. Even though you're out on the town on liberty ... it's your duty to interfere. It's your duty to intervene. That's it."

Frustrated by a lack of progress in reducing sexual assaults among sailors, the Navy has put unprecedented attention on the issue this year. High-ranking Navy leaders are likening it to their crusade years ago to stop rampant drug abuse and say it is not only dehumanizing to the victims but also threatens their operational readiness.

Regardless of location, most sexual assaults in the Navy occur after a night of drinking and officials say many of them could be prevented if someone had spoken up sooner to stop that chain of events. The focus is nothing short of an attempt at a significant cultural shift in the Navy, where men and women work in close quarters and often go out drinking together in foreign ports after months at sea.

Navy leaders acknowledge sexual assault is an uncomfortable topic for people to talk about, and that's part of the problem they're trying to fix.

"The challenge I believe our fleet leadership is faced with is breaking the many taboos that are often associated with sexual assaults," Adm. John Harvey, commander of U.S. Fleet Forces Command said. "But just as we have taken on other significant problems that impact our readiness such as drunk driving, drug use, dealing properly with PTSD and taking on motorcycle safety, we must also take on sexual assault by pulling back the curtain of secrecy and by facing head on the reality of sexual assault in our Navy."

The reality is that the Navy receives two to three reports of sexual assault a day and has for several years. While the Navy has long taught the importance of preventing sexual assaults, Navy officials say it hasn't worked its way deep enough into the command climate to result in significant changes.

In 2011, there were 610 reports of sexual assault. That's one less than the previous year.

Critics say while it's a good thing the military is focusing on preventing sexual assaults, they say real change won't occur until there are more successful prosecutions. The Defense Department has estimated that 86 percent of sexual assaults go unreported, an indication that some are worried about the effect reporting an assault may have on their career as well as their mistrust of the military prosecution system.

"They do say they want to change, but I feel a lot of it is lip service until we see a higher prosecution rate, until we see more rapists sent to prison for rape," said Panayiota Bertzikis, executive director of the Military Rape Crisis Center. "The bottom line is a felony has been committed and they have to start treating it as a felony."

To that end, the Department of Defense recently announced plans for each service to have "special victim unit" capabilities to ensure that specially trained investigators, prosecutors and victim-witness assistance personnel are available to handle sexual assault cases. That is intended to help with evidence collection, interviewing and court martial proceedings. As part of the initiative, a higher level of command would address the most serious sexual assault offenses. In the Navy, that means someone at the captain level. That change goes into effect Thursday. The idea is for leaders to take over responsibility and be accountable for sexual assault problems.

The fact that Harvey is openly drawing attention to the Navy's problem addressing the issue is a non-too-subtle sign to sailors that Navy leadership won't tolerate it any longer.

It's a problem that has drawn the attention of the Navy's top officer, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan Greenert.

"I've been at this in earnest for almost three years saying we have got to do something about this. And the numbers aren't changing. We have about 600 of these a year," Greenert told sailors aboard the aircraft carrier USS George H.W. Bush in April, according to a Navy transcript. "So today about two sailors are going to sexually assault two other sailors. That's the statistics. I don't know if that bothers you, but it bothers the hell out of me."

The Navy required every sailor to undergo two hours of sexual assault awareness training in April. Although the training could be tailored to each ship or command's unique circumstance, it generally covered what sexual assault is, the options to report it and how to prevent it. Among other things, a video was shown aboard the Bataan of a sailor who chose not to intervene when he saw another man being overly aggressive toward a woman at a bar. After he left, the man struck the woman.

"This is a sensitive subject. A lot of folks don't like to talk about it," said Senior Chief Rhonda Przybylski, the Bataan's sexual assault prevention and response trainer. "It's not usually a general topic of conversation at dinner or the mess decks. It's not like talking about the weather or buying a new car."

During her training session, Przybylski frequently tried to connect sexual assaults on a personal level to those in the room, telling them that enlisted sailors in their early 20s were the most likely to become a victim.

Seaman Samuel Havens, an interior communications fireman aboard the Bataan from Carson City, Nev., said he's been in the Navy for about two years and that the training opened his eyes to what a problem sexual assault is.

"I really didn't realize it happened as much as it does," he said after stopping by a sexual assault awareness table on the ship. "Obviously, it's a big deal. As much as it happens it should be a big deal."

Navy leaders acknowledge that education alone won't eradicate sexual assault, but if they can get sailors like Havens talking about it below deck in the mess halls and in the ranks it could lead to positive peer pressure.

"We can all make a difference. It may not be a huge effect on a huge scale. If you stop one sexual assault, and maybe it's your mother, or your daughter or your best friend or your neighbor, you're making a difference in society. We have to take this out of the context of just being in the military and think about being a good person all around," Przybylski said.

Businesses who fail to use internet marketing and SEO will have a difficult time getting new customers.

However,?these days shoppers have become much better at searching with Google, so keywords have progressively become longer so as to return far more relevant results. For instance, instead of just ?Jackson Real Estate? which may give us some good websites for that keyword, we might be looking for something a little more specific.

Therefore, we might type ?Jackson Low Price Apartments?. The reason we would do that is because we?re fed up searching through websites that don?t offer us the opportunity to see any low price real estate, so we?re searching using Google rather than merely clicking on various websites.

This particular mentality seems to have revitalized the world of small businesses online. Instead of just searching for a product or service, people today look for a niche product or service in a particular area. Source: Redskins QB Griffin target of extortion

(AP) ? A former Baylor basketball player is facing a federal extortion charge for allegedly threatening to release "derogatory information" about Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III unless he was paid.

Richard Khamir Hurd, 25, was arraigned Monday in federal court in Waco. His bond was set at $25,000.

A person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press that Griffin, the Baylor quarterback who was the No. 2 overall draft choice of the Washington Redskins, was the target of the alleged extortion attempt. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because authorities had not disclosed the fact.

Griffin was at an NFL rookie symposium Monday in Ohio, where players were not made available to reporters.

Court documents say that last week, Hurd contacted a representative from a St. Louis agency, threatening to publicize derogatory information about a client unless he was paid a "substantial sum" of money. The representative is identified in documents only by the initials B.D.

Griffin's agent is St. Louis-based Ben Dogra, who didn't respond to messages Monday. The documents don't name Griffin.

According to court documents, Hurd met at a Waco business Friday with someone who agreed to handle the transaction. After signing a non-disclosure agreement, handing over the information and receiving a check, Hurd was arrested by an undercover FBI agent, documents said.

Hurd's attorney did not return calls seeking comment.

Hurd's mother, Marlene Hurd, told The AP on Monday she'd heard that her son was in jail but wasn't aware of the details.

"Whatever it is, I pray by the grace of God that he's innocent," she said.

Griffin's Heisman Trophy, the first in the history of the world's largest Baptist university, came after he led the Bears to only their second 10-win season in 112 years. In his three-year career, Griffin set or tied 54 school records.

Washington traded three first-round picks and a second-rounder to the St. Louis Rams to move into the No. 2 slot to draft Griffin.

The past year also saw Baylor win the NCAA women's basketball championship with a 40-0 record and reach the round of 16 for the second time in three years in the men's tournament.

However, less than a week after the Lady Bears won the title, the NCAA put the Waco school on three years' probation after an investigation turned up hundreds of impermissible telephone calls and text messages sent to prep recruits by coaches and assistants on the two basketball teams.

Hurd played basketball at Baylor as a walk-on, from the 2004-05 season through the 2007-08 season, after a high school career at Heritage Christian Academy in Cleveland north of Houston, according to Baylor sports information. His brother, Lamar Hurd, also played at Heritage Christian and later at Oregon State.

The brothers helped Heritage Christian become one of the top private school programs in Texas, and the school's former coach, Jerome Tang, is now a Baylor assistant.

Katy Perry Says She 'Did Everything' To Save Her Marriage

Perry's 'Part of Me' documentary gives fans a candid look at the demise of her relationship with Russell Brand.

It's been a whirlwind of a year for pop superstar Katy Perry. In 2011, she earned six #1 singles off her Teenage Dream album, embarked on a worldwide tour and endured a very public breakup from Russell Brand.

And now fans can share all these experiences and more as Perry is set to release her 3-D documentary, "Part of Me," on July 5th. The movie chronicles her unparalleled year as she has career highs, but suffers personal lows.

And it's those very personal moments, especially with Brand, that many will find most surprising. For the past six months, Perry has been mum on the issue of her divorce, and now for the first time, she is opening up about the split.

The film picks up just a few months after the two tied the knot, as Perry embarks on her biggest tour to date, the California Dreams Tour. Fans witness Perry put in hours of hard work preparing for the tour and traveling to hundreds of different cities. Yet, with the success that she was having onstage, it was offstage where things were falling apart.

It seems her new marriage and a grueling tour schedule were not mixing well, but it was not from lack of trying: Perry was adamant that while on her nearly yearlong tour, she take time out to see her husband, but in the end, it just couldn't save the marriage.

At one point, while flying to one of her tour stops, Perry admits to the camera, "I'm trying to keep my marriage alive."

"Part of Me" gives fans a rare glimpse inside a celebrity marriage, with Brand featured throughout the film. Some moments are touching, like when the comedian comes to wish her well on the opening night of her tour, yet some are heartbreaking to watch. In one scene, Perry is crying uncontrollably, delaying the start time of the concert, but like a true professional, she chokes back the tears and puts on a brave face for her fans.

Perry talks candidly about Brand in the film, revealing that it was her skyrocketing career that could have played into the downfall of her marriage. "I thought to myself, 'When I find that person that's going to be my life partner, I won't ever have to choose [between the partner and my career]. They won't be threatened or have weird motives.' Then I started to realize, that's not true," she admits. Yet, when asked in the film whether she still misses Brand, Perry begins to cry and admits that she does, but says she did everything she could to make it work.

"I have that same belief system with everything, from career to my life to my personal life, everything. And I will do everything it takes to not fail," she shares. "And I did everything it took, but it still failed."

Perry recently told MTV News that even though the subject of her divorce is difficult to deal with, she felt she would be doing her fans a disservice if she didn't include it in the film.

"The truth will always prevail," Perry said. "Everything has to be handled integrously and appropriately, and it's not nice to air all your dirty laundry, because that stinks, so I had to be very delicate with the situation, but I couldn't avoid the elephant in the room," she explained. "If you were to have seen that movie and walked out and [my breakup] wasn't at all mentioned, like it never happened, you'd be like, 'Eh, this is weird. What is she trying to hide?' I don't like to hide."
