Every year the Manchester Music Base hosts visits from some of the most influential artists, producers, managers and experts from today?s music scene. Whether you are looking to learn more about establishing your music career, the latest production techniques, new trends from the industry or even how to become a success on a TV talent show, the Music Base has the contacts you need.
Just a sample of some of the industry experiences our students have had this year:
Alex Banks Master Class
With four worldwide selling albums, Alex Banks from EZ Rollers provided a master class of recording and post production tips using music programme Logic. Alex also shared information on the latest synth sounds and drum sound finishing.
Remix Competition
Students remix a track from a well known artist, with all remixes being judged by the original artist and a number of industry experts. The winning students have their remix track digitally released and are given the remixer title.
Ibiza Competition
All aspiring DJ?s are asked to produce a one hour set, with the four best DJ?s being flown to Ibiza where they live the life of an international DJ for three days with radio interviews, photo shoots, villa accommodation and a DJ set at one of the world?s most famous nightclubs.
Broke ?n? ?nglish
A meet and greet with freestyle Hip Hop artist ?Strategy?; the opportunity to quiz him on everything to do with a career in the industry, an intimate performance and the opportunity to perform with Strategy himself.
DJ Krust
Bristol born Drum & Bass Producer and DJ visited the Music Base to give an inspirational presentation about his career and journey into the music business. With two albums under his belt and a regular column in Recharged Magazine, he gave insightful knowledge into many aspects of a career in the music industry.
Sangfroid Music Group A&R Visit
Senior A&R Manager Ed Lewis from the Sangfroid Music Group is responsible for scouting new talent for record labels. Previously A&R Manager for Warner Bros Records, Ed gave hints and tips on how to be spotted by a talent scout and how to become an established artist within today?s industry.
EZ Rollers Visit
Jay Hurren from drum and bass group EZ Rollers took time out from the production of their fifth album to deliver a master class to Music Base students covering subjects such as running a label, income streams, promotion, music sync, evolution of the industry and music press and journalism.

Phil Ellis Digital Toolkit
Phil Ellis, a music industry consultant who works with ATOM Live, Sound City, Go North and BBC TV has experience working with artists from Sony, EMI and Reverb Music. Phil came to the Music Base to share some vital tips on making it in the industry, talking about subjects such as artist & product development strategies, networking, and building industry contacts.
Ray Paul Radio & Media Production
Ray Paul has a long and illustrious career in the media industry; starting on a local level at a local BBC radio station over 20 years ago, moving on to successfully launch the award winning BBC 1Extra in 2001. Ray spoke to students, focussing on how the industry works, entry routes, professional practice and radio production.
The Rain Band visit the Music Base
Four piece guitar band from Manchester visited the Music Base along with Rowetta from the Happy Mondays to give a musicians perspective on writing and creating music, touring, and promotions.
Branding in Music
Social Entrepreneur Yow Owusu presented a session on branding within the music, youth, and entertainment industries. Yow spoke about the rise and importance of branding in business, in particular within the music and youth sectors. Yow shared ideas of successful campaigns and gave students an insight into the key stages needed to promote their own music brands.
Maverick Sabre: the ?I Need? College sessions
Chart topping signer songwriter Maverick Sabre visited the College to film ?the College Sessions?: a collaboration of College students from across the country singing and playing instruments on his top-20 hit ?I Need?.

?Manchester Music Base has got Talent!
Following the success of Music Base student Misha B in the X Factor 2011, the producers of Britain?s Got Talent visited the College to meet more of the fantastic talent produced here. Students were given the opportunity to audition in front of a panel of producers, and were also invited to an exclusive Q&A session with Nigel Hall, producer on many hit programmes including: the X Factor; I?m a Celebrity Get Me out Of Here; and Britain?s Got Talent. Nigel is also the Director of Programming at Song Entertainment Group.
