Israel-Nepal joint stamp features Everest and Dead Sea, world's highest and lowest places

JERUSALEM - Israel and Nepal have released a joint stamp depicting their countries' contrasting geographic wonders ? the highest and the lowest places on earth.

The five-shekel stamp ($1.25) bears a picture of Mount Everest, towering at 8,848 meters (29,028 feet) and the mineral-rich Dead Sea, at 422 meters (1,384 feet) below sea level. It shows the Israeli and Nepalese flags and has Hebrew, Nepalese, Arabic and English writing on it.

Mount Everest straddles Nepal's border with China, while the Dead Sea borders Israel, the West Bank and Jordan.

Israel's Foreign Ministry announced the joint stamp's release Thursday. It was issued in both countries this week and is meant to mark decades of cooperation between the two states.
